According to Reuters, the Caterpillar bulldozer corporation is filing suit against Walt Disney Pictures for trademark infringement in their DVD movie "George of the Jungle 2." Apparently, the corporation feels that Disney's movie--which has George fighting "bulldozing bullies" --portrays Caterpillar in a "bad light." They go on to say that that portrayal could have a "negative impact on children that view the movie" for the bulldozer maker and its line of toys.
Are you freaking kidding me? What the hell can they be thinking over there at Caterpillar? Do they seriously believe that thousands of 8 year olds are going to hold a grudge against Caterpillar heavy machinery products when they get older? And let me ask a question that I've asked before: Does Buick or Toyota or any other car company sue when their car is being used by a villain in a movie? When a James Bond enemy drives a Porshe with missles coming out of it, and proceeds to kill several characters, does Porshe fear that people will think negatively of Porsche?
Jesus. Stop the madness. I realize no kids really give a crap about Caterpillar "toys" anymore, but is this the way to keep your dwindling share of the toy market?
